Yellow

Why do I write? To touch a stranger in an intimate part, that neither of us knew existed.

The lichen was on a wall outside the office. Vincent van Gogh taught me to see, especially yellow. And each day I teach myself to see, to hear, to smell and so on. Beyond all these senses is something "infinite", but that is just a word, how do we know what it means?

Better to say less, and not stifle the reader with borrowed ideas.

To see more of nature's yellow graffiti (thanks Polyhymnia for pointing this out!) click on the clip. Earlier I tried displaying the picture on a 16-colour palette, with a special dither, but it looks best without manipulation.

How gorgeous! I've never seen a chrome yellow lichen. Lots of shades of green, and some pale yellows, and some tipped with bright red, but this is extraordinary!

They are common here and more resistant to the dry weather we are now having than the pale turquoise ones (almost white) which were so healthy in pale February.

Yves, I wish I could say less as well as you do. I fully appreciate your thoughts on that subject.

It is a beautiful photograph of a beautiful subject. I don't recall ever seeing a yellow lichen. So bright.

Lovely picture, lovely words to accompany the photo. To live is to sense...and we are so unaware every day of how much there is to sense in every single thing in our world and in our surroundings. Just take a deep breath and sense the air, the dryness or humidity of it, the subtle change in the smell from day to day and weather pattern to weather pattern, even from one moment to the next. I love how you say you teach yourself to see, to hear, to smell, etc. We really do have to teach ourselves...as with everything else that just runs on automatic we slip into complacency about our sense of our world around us. Thank you for the reminder to us all to teach ourselves to sense, to appreciate, to really experience.
